Garuka Bars Winooski, VT

Farmer/Producer Website

Vermont native Mike Rosenburg started experimenting with making protein bars while on a ski break in Utah. He needed sustenance when in the back country and nowhere near a kitchen. He experimented with recognizable ingredients, a good balance and variety of carboydrates, and ended up with a tasty bar including whole grains, peanut butter and raw Vermont honey.

Garuka bars are named after one of the few remaining mountain gorillas ranging the volcanic forests of the Virunga Massif in Rwanda. A percentage of each sale goes towards gorilla conservation. Garuka is roughly translated from Kinyarwanda as “Return Well”. When you choose to pick up a Garuka Bar to return your energy, you’re also supporting a cause to return well the future of the mountain gorilla.
